At Kettering Recreation Complex, we don’t just build muscle—we build friendships! Meet Monica Schultz and Michelle Hermann, a dynamic duo who have transformed their fitness journeys together over the last four years, guided by personal trainer Larry.
Michelle, a kindergarten teacher, has been a member for 20+ years. She initially sought training to manage chronic back pain from surgery, leading to a strong core that eliminated stiffness. Later, when she needed simultaneous bilateral knee replacement, her commitment to training ensured an easy, quick recovery that amazed her doctors! “I attribute my success to Larry’s training work-outs,” Michelle shares.
For Monica, the journey began with building strength training knowledge. She now trains 3 days a week, describing the sessions as her “personality-change” because of the immediate mental lift they provide. She’s currently building endurance for a challenging 3-day backpacking hike in Canyonlands this November and for search and rescue training with her dog!
More Than Just Workouts
Monica and Michelle have formed the “B.A.B.E. Squad,” sharing healthy recipes, exercise tips and becoming true friends. Michelle credits Monica: “I don’t know that I would be as strong as I am without her friendship and support.”
Favorite Part of KRC:
Monica: The people (staff and fellow athletes) are all so encouraging!
Michelle: How much of a part of the community it is—I always see someone I know!
2026 Goals:
Monica: Increase consistent dead-hang time to 1 minute.
Michelle: Regain the balance she lost since her double knee replacement.
We are so proud to celebrate the B.A.B.E. Squad! Thank you for sharing your journey with the Kettering Fitness community!
