Meet Brian McCarty, a dedicated member whose journey from 20-year military veteran to fitness enthusiast embodies the spirit of commitment and community at Kettering Recreation Complex. Born and raised in southeastern Ohio, Brian proudly served our nation for two decades, experiencing diverse cultures worldwide. Since retiring in 2008, he’s made Dayton home with his wife Priscila and children Julia (10) and AJ. When Priscila purchased family memberships in January 2023, Brian’s fitness journey began.
Brian’s biggest challenge wasn’t physical—it was forming new habits. “The hardest part of working out is getting to the gym,” he admits. The solution? Group exercise classes, where fantastic instructors and encouraging classmates create accountability in a supportive environment. Thanks to this community, Brian feels better, sleeps better and has transformed his health.
Brian’s commitment is truly inspiring—he attended 135 group exercise classes last year! His motivation is deeply personal: “The males in my family have a very poor longevity record, so my biggest goal is simply to continue to lead a healthier lifestyle.” This journey helps him stay active with his children and coach their athletic teams. His next goal? Earning the 150-class certificate. Brian’s favorite classes include B-Fit, TRX, Bootcamp, Cycle-Strength Combo and Weights. He appreciates the variety of teaching styles from instructors like Karianne and Eileen, finding each class format uniquely inspiring.
“The Kettering Recreation Complex is such a great value!” Brian says. For anyone hesitant about fitness, he recommends starting with group exercise classes. He’s grateful for all his instructors and the friendly front desk staff, noting they “make the Kettering Rec a special place!”
Brian McCarty’s journey reminds us that fitness is about community, accountability and creating a lifestyle that helps us be our best for the people we love. Ready to start your fitness journey? Discover the supportive community that’s helped Brian achieve such success!
