Fitness Patron Spotlight: Barb Phillips!

Posted on April 5, 2024

For Barb Phillips, fitness is more than just physical exercise – it’s a lifestyle that has evolved over the years. At 57 years old, the HR Director for Greene County Public Library and proud mother of two has been an active member of the Kettering Fitness and Wellness Center (KFWC) for years, embracing the variety of offerings to keep her body and mind in top shape.

Overcoming Obstacles with KFWC’s Support

As Barb’s abilities have changed with age, she has had to adapt her fitness goals. “I don’t have the same fitness goals that I had 10 or 20 years ago,” she admits. “Now it’s about movement and staying active.” A former tennis player and runner, Barb tried rowing recently but found it challenging on her back and knees. Cycling on the weekends provides a break, but her real haven is the KFWC, where she works out five to seven times a week before work.

“The KFWC has been a saving grace for me because of the variety of all the facility has to offer,” Barb shares. “Each day I can choose the workout that is best for my body that day, whether that’s cardio or weights.”

A Holistic Approach to Health and Wellness

While Barb’s physical and competitive goals may have shifted from her younger years, her commitment to overall health and wellness remains unwavering. She recognizes the strong link between daily activity and mental health, which is especially important in her busy life. “The staff at the KFWC make everyone feel part of the community—they are always welcoming and engaging, which makes it that much easier to show up every day!” she says.

Barb’s dedication to fitness is an inspiration, showcasing how the KFWC can adapt to individual needs and support patrons on their unique health and wellness journeys. Whether you’re a seasoned athlete or simply seeking to incorporate more movement into your routine, the KFWC offers a supportive community and diverse resources to help you achieve your goals!
