Happy Friday! This week’s featured fitness patron is Luke Stechschulte, who enjoys working towards his powerlifting goals at the Kettering Fitness & Wellness Center. Congrats on all your wellness progress, Luke!

Tell us about yourself and how long you’ve been a member of the Kettering Fitness & Wellness Center.

My name is Luke. I am 23 years old. I have been coming here about 10+ years now on and off.  However recently, I have been coming 3-4 plus days a week for the past three years or so.

What personal obstacles have you overcome and how did our fitness facilities help you through?

One personal obstacle that I overcame was just out of high school I was a “skinny boy”. Once I entered college, I started to lift casually. However, I soon grew a love for lifting. I merged my love for lifting with my love for eating an absurd amount of food and that transformed me from a skinny boy to the large human I am today.

Do you have any personal health and fitness goals, won a competition, etc.?

Since I would classify my lifting as “powerlifting”, my goal is to always lift heavier weight at a lower body weight.  There isn’t really an end game for my lifting style, however hitting certain milestones on specific lifts make the grind worth it. Some certain goals that I plan on hitting in a few years are a 600 lbs. deadlift, 450 lbs. back squat and a 350 lbs. barbell bench.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

Everyone should work out in some aspect. I’ve committed myself to my specific style which I really enjoy. Whether your style is jogging, rock climbing, playing basketball, etc., you should look forward to working out. Make a workout regimen that you can see yourself doing for 3-4 days a week for the rest of your life.
