The Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department’s Chipping Program is a service provided to residential property dwellers with the purpose of maintaining the aesthetic beauty and property values in Kettering.
Following the guidelines as described below will ensure that your brush meets our requirements and keeps your workload to a minimum. When your trimming is complete and you have stacked the brush properly, measure the brush pile. Bring the measurements to the Parks Maintenance Center and pay the scheduled fee by Friday at 4 p.m. Chipping will begin the following week.
Reservations must be scheduled in advance. All fees must be paid by Friday at 4 p.m. the preceding week. Chipping will be during the scheduled week. Fees may be paid in person or by mail. Please allow sufficient time for mail delivery.
For best results, call before you do your trimming. When trimming is complete and you have stacked the brush properly, measure the brush pile. Bring the measurements to the Parks Maintenance Center (3170 Valleywood Drive) and pay the scheduled fee by Friday at 4 p.m. Chipping will be the next week.
The chipping program is designed to provide the most extensive service possible, at the least expense in manpower. Therefore, if any of the following conditions are not met, the Parks staff will be forced top bypass your chipping request.
- Branches and limbs to be chipped must not be over 4 inches in diameter.
- Branches and limbs to be chipped must not be less than 48 inches long. Branches less than 2 inches in diameter and less than 48 inches in length can be taken by your refuse hauler.
- Branches and limbs shall be stacked no higher than 3 feet and all facing the same way with the cut or butt end facing the curb.
- No roots, dirt, boards, plywood, ropes, vines, thorny material, large shrubs or debris of any sort shall be included in the pile.
- If possible, the piles shall be stacked between the sidewalk and the curb in the tree lawn area. They shall not be located in such a manner as to block the sidewalk, be in the street or create a hazard of any kind.
- Any trimmings by commercial tree trimmers or hired personnel will not be accepted.
- This service is limited to two times per season per person or address. A maximum of 20 requests will be taken per week.
