Rosewood Gallery features four group exhibitions per year: Dayton Area Works on Paper in January; The View Juried Landscape Exhibition in May/June; HWD (Height x Width x Depth) Sculpture Exhibition in the fall; and Art Ed: An Art Educators' Exhibition in December. Learn how to participate here.

NOVEMBER 27 – DECEMBER 29, 2017

Held annually since 2011, Art Ed is dedicated to celebrating artwork created by the region’s art educators.

REQUIRED:

Submissions constitute an agreement on the part of the entrant to all conditions set forth in the Rosewood Gallery Group Exhibition Agreement.

ELIGIBILITY

All media accepted. Entrants must be professionally teaching art in the Dayton area during the exhibition dates. Work must have been made in the last ten years and be able to fit through the 34”x79” doorway.

ENTRY PROCEDURE

There is no fee for entering and no jury process. Eligible artists may submit one piece for exhibition. Entries should include one digital image of the work submitted along with a completed entry form (in digital format or hard copy). Files should be in JPG format and be named as follows: LastnameArtEd.jpg. Entry forms and images may be sent via email to tracy.flagg@ketteringoh.org or mailed to Tracy Centers, Gallery Coordinator, 2655 Olson Dr., Kettering, OH 45420.

DROP OFF ARTWORK

All submitted works should be hand-delivered Saturday, November 19, 10am – 3pm or Monday, November 21, 12 – 7pm OR sent by postal carrier to arrive at Rosewood Gallery the week of November 14-21. All 2D work must be framed with Plexiglass (if shipped), wired, and ready to hang upon delivery. If work is delivered, works may use either glass or Plexi. The provided identification label should be attached to the back or bottom of all artworks. Artists who are shipping their work are responsible for shipping charges both ways. Shipped works must be packaged in reusable cartons and return shipping must be PREPAID.

ARTIST RECEPTION

A reception will take place during the A Rosewood Holiday open house event on Saturday, December 2, 11am – 3pm. All artists and the general public are invited to attend.

PICK UP ARTWORK

Hand-delivered works can be picked up after the exhibition on Saturday, December 30, 10am – 3pm or Monday, January 2, 12 – 7pm. Works must be picked up in person unless artist has made prepaid shipping arrangements with the Gallery Coordinator. Rosewood Gallery will not be responsible for artwork remaining on the premises after January 6, 2016.

AWARDS AND SALES

Guests at the A Rosewood Holiday open house event will select the winners of three People’s Choice Awards, each $100. Rosewood Gallery encourages sales, for which the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department retains a 30% commission.

LIABILITY

Every precaution is taken in handling exhibiting artwork. All work is insured during the installation process and while the work is on display. The Gallery Coordinator reserves the right to reject work if it violates any conditions set forth in this prospectus or is unsafe to display for any reason. Rosewood Arts Centre and Rosewood Gallery are not responsible for damage from faulty hanging systems/frames provided by the artist. Artists are encouraged to use frame corners or other protective devices during dropoff/pickup. By submitting my entry, I confirm that I have read and agreed to be bound by the Rosewood Gallery Group Exhibition Agreement, as collected and read at playkettering.org/gallery or at Rosewood Gallery or Rosewood Arts Centre front office.

AGREEMENT

Submission of an entry to Art Ed constitutes an agreement on the part of the entrant to the conditions set forth in the exhibition prospectus. The Rosewood Gallery reserves the right to reproduce accepted entries for publicity purposes.

AUGUST 28 – OCTOBER 6, 2017

HWD, or Height x Width x Depth, is a juried exhibition celebrating three-dimensional artwork by artists from Ohio and surrounding states.  Established in 2007, HWD is the region’s only gallery exhibition focused exclusively on sculpture.

REQUIRED

Artist must agree to Group Liability Agreement to participate in a Rosewood Gallery group exhibition. Rosewood Gallery Group Exhibition Agreement

ELIGIBILITY

– All types of three-dimensional mediums are accepted including wood, fiber, stone, metal, glass and mixed media
– Artwork must be able to fit through the 79 x 34 inch gallery entryway
– Artwork must be created within the last four years
– Artists must be residents of Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Pennsylvania or West Virginia

DEADLINE: July 20, midnight

2016 JUROR: Geoff Riggle, Head of Jewelry Design & Metalsmithing, Miami University
Geoff Riggle received a Bachelor of Science in Art Education from Ball State University and a Master of Fine Arts in metalsmithing and jewelry design from Miami University. With a firm foundation in traditional metalsmithing techniques and jewelry design practice, his current body of work spans the mediums of metals and jewelry, sculpture, and photography, and forges ground into digital design and practice. Riggle has exhibited nationally and internationally and has been featured in a number of publications, including Showcase 500 Rings: New Directions in Art Jewelry 2012) by Marthe Le Van. Currently, Riggle is Head of Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing in the Department of Art at Miami University.

ENTRY PROCEDURE

Jury is done from digital files. Files should be in JPEG format and be named as follow: Lastname1, Lastname2, etc. Each artwork may include up to three images to indicate dimension and detail (in which case, name the files Lastname1a, Lastname1b, etc.).

A non-refundable entry fee of $20 for up to three artworks must accompany each entry. Multiple entries are accepted. Checks must be made payable to the City of Kettering or credit card payments can be made over the phone by calling Rosewood Arts Centre at (937) 296-0294.

OPENING RECEPTION

A reception will take place on Thursday, August 31, 6 – 8pm at Rosewood Gallery. All artists and the general public are invited to attend. United Art and Education awards will be announced at 7pm.

AWARDS AND SALES

United Art and Education awards totaling $1100 will be distributed at the discretion of the juror. Rosewood Gallery encourages sales, for which the City of Kettering Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department, sponsor for Rosewood Gallery, retains a 30% commission.

LIABILITY

Every precaution is taken in handling exhibiting artwork. All work is insured during the installation process and while the work is on display. The Gallery Coordinator reserves the right to reject work if it differs from the work presented in the original application, violates any conditions set forth in this prospectus, or is unsafe to display for any reason. Artists who are shipping their work are responsible for shipping charges both ways. Return shipping must be pre-paid with a pre-paid label through UPS or FedEx. If no such arrangements are made, the artwork will not be returned. All wall pieces must include proper hanging materials or instructions. Participating artists must agreed to be bound by the Rosewood Gallery Group Exhibition Agreement.

AGREEMENT

Submission of an entry to the HWD regional sculpture competition constitutes an agreement on the part of the entrant to all the conditions set forth in this prospectus. Rosewood Gallery reserves the right to reproduce images of accepted entries for publicity purposes.

MAY 30 – JULY 7, 2017

The View is a juried exhibition created by Rosewood Gallery as a showcase for Ohio artists presenting traditional or abstract views of landscape or land imagery, environmental themes and world issues.

JUROR:  Andrea Starkey

Andrea Starkey is a printmaker residing in Bellbrook. Ohio. A self-trained artist, she is a professional architectural illustrator and graphic designer who practices the technique of traditional Japanese woodblock printmaking, Moku Hanga. Since beginning her printmaking journey in 2009, her work has garnered many awards in juried shows and has been shown in solo shows throughout the region. A member of Dayton Visual Arts Center and Dayton Society of Artists, Starkey has prints in the public collections of both the Wright State Foundation and the City of Kettering as well as in private collections around the world. Her work is inspired by both nature and the natural materials used in its creation. Starkey’s desire to explore both the atmospheric conditions of light and the complexity and randomness of trees and their limbs is well represented through her process, as once the matrix of the blocks is in place, the artist is able to explore imagery with color and texture to achieve her illustrative aesthetic.

Works on Paper is a juried exhibition for artists living within a 40-mile radius of Dayton, Ohio (this excludes Columbus and Cincinnati), working in or on paper. This includes, but is not limited to photos, prints, painting or drawings on paper, cast paper, paper mache, cardboard, etc.

2017 JUROR:

 

Elizabeth Carney is currently Assistant Curator at the Akron Art Museum, where she organizes and oversees exhibitions of modern and contemporary art. Among her current and past exhibition projects are Turn the Page: The First Ten Years of Hi-Fructose; PULP; Staged; and John Pearson: Intuitive Structures. She received her MA in Curating the Art Museum from The Courtauld Institute of Art, London, England, after earning her BA in Art History from Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, and trained in various art media at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio. Elizabeth’s past curatorial projects include organizing the exhibition Portrait of the Artist As… at The Courtauld Gallery, London, and internships at Tate Modern, London; Museum of Contemporary Art Cleveland, Ohio; and Cleveland Public Art.  Her research focuses on globalism in art as well as peripheral aspects of art viewing experiences, including installation practices, photographic reproductions of art, and technology in museums.

Artists must drop off entries at Rosewood Gallery during the designated drop-off dates and times as listed on the reverse side of this prospectus. A non-refundable entry fee of $20 for up to three pieces must accompany each entry form. Multiple entries are permitted, and should include an additional entry form and fee. Please make checks payable to City of Kettering or make credit card payment over the phone by calling Rosewood Arts Centre at (937) 296-0294.

Upon delivery, all 2-D work must be labeled, framed, wired, and ready to hang; all 3-D work must be labeled and ready to display (indicate display method: pedestal, floor, hang from ceiling, etc.). The gallery coordinator reserves the right to reject any work not prepared in a sound manner for hanging, or otherwise unpresentable for display. Submissions must include a completed entry form and $20 entry fee at the time of drop-off.
